2009 Philippine-Russian Business Forum
The first ever Philippine-Russian Business Forum was a gathering of key businesspeople, policymakers and innovators from the Philippines and the Russian Federation. The theme for our launching forum was "New ties. New markets. New ways." This catchy idea was instantly picked up by all the participants and resource persons, including former President of the Philippines, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who was the keynote speaker for this event. The idea of creating this initial forum was to boost the initiative to create new opportunities through renewed cultural and economic relationship between the Philippines and Russia.
Speakers from the Russian Federation discussed Russian attitudes and business etiquette, investment priorities and interest in the Philippines. Philippine speakers gave guidelines on foreign investment in the Philippines, and provided a range of possible investment opportunities for Russians. Business matching sessions were held on-site, alongside a mini-exhibit of Philippine and Russian companies. Governor Gwendolyn Garcia spoke of the Province of Cebu as a potential investment and tourism hub. Direct travel from Russia to the Philippines was also a highlight of discussion, as direct flights mean increase in tourism potential for the Philippines.
